#BonsaiNews: grow your own Marula tree (Complete Guide) The story that Marula's trees, scientifically referred to as Sclerocarya's birrhea, can get the elephants drunk more than foxes can be a superstition of age but that doesn't remove the tree and it's beauty. (IMAGE SOURCE: www.southafrica.net) The story of the elephants who eat marula fruit, and who are absolutely hammered, was heard for the first time in the early 1800s, however, this theory has been sadly put to rest - sorry if you expected to catch an elephant in an funnel. For years the fruit of the tree has been used to produce a creamy and delicious liquor, with the most famous Amarula brand in South Africa. The fruit produced by this tree has a different sweet and bitter taste when it is ripe and when it becomes juice, it even contains four times more vitamin c compared to orange juice. The oil produced by the fruit has also been found to have multiple benefits for the use of the skin. So why wouldn't you want to cultivate your own marula tree? But before you start, or you'll need to put your hands on a real marula fruit or order/purchase some seed. Here are some of the things you will need: Now, first, take a look at the image below what the seed looks like when it withdraws from the fruit and dried. (Travel force: www.aurumafrica.eu) And now, this is what they seem to have opened. (Shipping force: American Botanical Council) If you can cut them open without damaging the part that grows, cut them as above, if not, do as shown below: Once the inner seed has been exposed, make sure your plantation mixture has been prepared as follows: In an oblong container, with decent drainage, first layer with moss of Canadian peat, about 1 cm deep and then the rest of the space can be filled with river. Removing the mixture thoroughly so that it is very wet and use the thumb, pushing the holes in the mixture and place the seed with the holes down to the ground and the upper half of the seed that sticks out of the ground. Once all this is done, move the container to a very sunny and warm area where the seeds will show signs of growth within two weeks. Make sure that the mixture of Canadian peat and river sand stays wet all day water. Within two or three weeks, your seed will have shown similar results as mine that is done below. Important tips: Don't try to remove the shell around the seed while it grows - it will do this for itself. Once you have reached the correct size and height, rethink the seedling in the same mixture if you wish, or in a regular soil and compost mixture - about 50/50 should do very well. Make sure the tree is placed in an area where the sun is full - the tree does not do well in cold temperatures. Great job in information and photos. Get away! JoyIt's more about how the tree will benefit from its immediate climate. Too cold and it won't survive. From as low as 20°F, the tree will begin to experience less leaf damage, however, it will continue to survive - lower than that, it would become dangerous for tree survival. Given that this is for decent trees - the younger ones, I would say, must be kept in a green/hot or indoor house. Thank you. Coin Marketplace
